A year's worth of bonkers, awful news...

…happens every week — just as I sat down to write this, I saw that The Wall Street Journal published a story about a “bawdy” letter Donald Trump sent to Jeffrey Epstein and that CBS canceled The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, ending a 30-year television institution for undoubtedly political reasons, and earlier today, the Senate approved major slashes to federal funding for PBS and NPR — so it’s hard to keep up with it all, but if you have the energy, I highly recommend reading this moving Vanity Fair essay by Rümeysa Öztürk about the harrowing, dehumanizing six weeks she spent in an ICE women’s prison seemingly for the non-crime of co-writing an op-ed in her school newspaper.
